Introduction
The Custom Currency Rate module for Odoo gives businesses greater control and flexibility when dealing with foreign currencies by allowing manual entry of exchange rates on transactional documents. Rather than relying solely on automated currency rates, users can specify a “new currency rate” in sales, purchases, invoices, refunds, and payments—especially when payment dates differ, or rates fluctuate. This capability ensures that conversions reflect real scenarios, that exchange differences are captured, and that financial records remain accurate across multi-currency environments.
Key Features
“New Currency Rate” field added to sales orders, purchase orders, invoices, credit/debit notes, refunds, and payments
Dynamic calculation and display of converted amounts using custom rate
Journaling of exchange differences when actual payment rate deviates from document rate
Visibility into currency amount differences after using manual rates
Support for converting between three different currencies in one operation (invoice currency, payment currency, company currency)
Display of exchange rate in the currency rates list for clarity and auditability
Benefits
Improves accuracy in multi-currency transactions when rates shift between document and payment date
Captures and reflects exchange gain or loss transparently in accounting entries
Empowers finance teams to override default rates in special or negotiated cases
Enhances auditability by displaying custom rates and differences explicitly
Offers flexibility in cross-currency scenarios (e.g. customer pays in a third currency)
